One positive development that we have seen in the last few years in the fashion industry is the increasing diversity of models that brands choose to showcase their clothes.
On Monday (May 10), Marks and Spencer shared a photo of a striking new dress from their Spring line, but buyers were much more interested in the model choice.
The post showed model and M&S Insider Nicola Dougan in a bright red full-length dress and white sneakers strolling through a dreamlike field of warm yellow flowers.
But while the popular retailer wanted to get shoppers’ attention to its range of spring dresses, shoppers were much more interested in Nicola.
The photo was captioned: “@marksandspencer_nicola is here to brighten up your Monday in this gorgeous embroidered midi dress. #Mymarks”
Shoppers have praised Nicola in the comments, happy to see the clothes they buy being modeled by someone who looks more like them.
One of them said: “Thank you for showing what this would look like in me (+).” With a heart of love.
