Man pleads guilty to murder of mother and model in East Cleveland

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – One of two men charged with the October 2020 murder of an East Cleveland mother and model pleaded guilty on Friday.

Curtis Gatheright has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, aggravated theft and felony assault, Cuyahoga County District Attorney Michael O’Malley said.

Daylonta Jones, 21, and Gatheright, 22, both of Cleveland, are charged with shooting and killing Shalaymiah Moore on Lake Shore Boulevard in Euclid on October 2, 2020, police reported.

According to the prosecution, the two men saw the victim sitting in his vehicle and approached her, trying to rob her and her friend.

When she tried to walk away, shots were fired and she was hit once in the back and then crashed into
a truck parked nearby, the prosecutor’s office said. Officers said Gatheright and Jones returned to their vehicle and drove off.

The mother, who worked as a model, was able to ask for help but later died.

Gatheright will be doomed at a later date.

Jones also faces multiple charges of aggravated murder, robbery and criminal assault. His trial is set for August 23.
