He was embroiled in a controversy in 2018 after his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra alleged in a June Medium article of the same year that one of her ex-boyfriends had emotionally and sexually assaulted her.
She did not name Hardwick, but the dates and clues have led readers to assume he was the target of her post.
Serious allegations: In 2018, Hardwick’s ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra wrote that she was emotionally and sexually assaulted by an unnamed boyfriend, but fans speculated she referred to Chris on the basis of the dates indicated; seen in 2019 in Hollywood
Hardwick denied the allegations in a statement: “Our three-year relationship wasn’t perfect – we weren’t a good game after all and we had an argument – we even yelled at each other – but I loved him and I did my best to raise and support her as a partner and companion in any way and at no time did I sexually assault her.
Hearst also defended her husband on Instagram after the accusations were made public.
“It’s not a defense, it’s a defense,” she wrote. “Defense for all women who have been sexually abused, raped, trafficked and tortured; defense of all the people for whom this movement was launched.
Although she wrote that the stories of women in the #MeToo movement “must be told,” she said her husband had done nothing wrong.
“I made the decision to support my husband not out of obligation, but out of necessity to tell the truth about the person I know,” she continued. “Chris is nothing but loving and compassionate and is the one person who supported me, never judged me, helped me heal and feel whole.”
She concluded, “To defend my husband would give credence to any of these charges. I will not do that. Chris Hardwick is a good man.
Hardwick was subsequently cleared of wrongdoing in investigations launched by AMC, which broadcasts Talking Dead and its other talk shows, and Nerdist.
Dykstra chose not to be interviewed for the inquiries.
