Heidi Klum has had an amazing modeling career, but her 17-year-old daughter Leni is telling mum to step aside – she’s ready to wear the crown now. She knew when she was 12 she was ready to walk, but her supermodel mom wisely told her she had to wait until she was 16.
In SHEIn the December / January issue, Leni reveals how she proved to Heidi that she has the courage to take on a career that really isn’t for the faint of heart. While on the set of The next German top model along with her mother, who serves as judge and host, Leni asked to join the models who took part in a photo challenge that involved jumping off a tower (harnessed, of course) and creating a beautiful pose in the air. “I was like ‘Mom, I also want to jump off the tower and take a picture,’” Leni recalled to SHE the writer Véronique Hyland. Mom didn’t say no, and Leni excelled at her modeling job – a model was born.
Now that the teen has become the most prominent rising star in the fashion industry, she admits that she “wasn’t that nervous” in Dolce & Gabbana’s recent Alta Moda show because she has this fearless attitude just like Heidi. “I’m sort of the winged,” she said confidently of her show. Believe it or not, Leni also credits a controversial reality star for giving her that vibrant spirit while wearing couture clothes from high-end designer: Abby Lee Miller. It might sound hard to believe, but she studied at the Dancing moms star’s studio as a child and she feels her lessons there have served her well in her modeling career. (Leni is at the top of the pyramid!)
Fans of Heidi and Leni should expect more mother-daughter moments on the catwalk in the future, but the young model is also ready to spread her wings solo. Looks like another aspiring model is on the way to being a celebrity.
