A father-son duo from Fort Collins is on a mobile mission to launch authentic cheesesteaks in northern Colorado.
Andrew Wittenauer launched Chefreys Cheesesteaks and More earlier this month with chef father Jeff Wittenauer at the helm.
The Fort Collins-based food cart specializes in cheesesteaks and other hot sandwiches made with Colorado meats and sausages and baked buns sourced from Amoroso’s Bakery in Philadelphia.
While working for a job that took him to travel to the eastern United States, Jeff said he tasted his fair share of cheesesteaks.
“I wasn’t getting what I thought was a classic (back) Colorado cheesesteak so I started to focus on that,” Jeff said.
He eventually co-founded Elli’s Deli, a different cheese food cart that turned into brick and mortar in 2017, operating for about a year in the Fort Collins suites at 4880 Ziegler Road.
Elli’s Deli, which employed workers with developmental and learning disabilities, closed in 2018, Jeff said.
Chefreys Cheesesteaks and More – the new family-owned cheese cart business – has been in the works for a few months, according to Andrew.
“Partly that’s because we love cheesesteaks and wanted them to be well done,” he said.

The cart’s foot-long cheesesteaks range from a simple $ 10 meat and bread option to “The OG” – a classic cheesesteak loaded with mushrooms, peppers and onions – for $ 14, depending on the. Chefreys menu.
The duo plan to offer hot sausage and pepper sandwiches, meatball subs and maybe a chef’s special soon, Jeff said.
Finally, 10% of the proceeds from the cart will be donated to local agencies that support people with physical and developmental disabilities, as well as mental health awareness initiatives and people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, Jeff added.
Chefreys Cheesesteaks and More is largely booked in September, with a particular focus on northern Colorado breweries including Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud and Windsor, Jeff said.
