Dumfries Standard Toy Appeal gets an extra helping hand

Every little gesture contributes to the Standard’s appeal for toys and everything counts towards giving a Christmas present to underprivileged children in Dumfriesshire.

We work hard with a variety of local agencies to spread a festive spirit for children living in poverty and struggling families right on our doorstep.

And we have hundreds of children on our agency lists – of all ages, from babies to teens – who desperately need to feel that our community cares about so much difficulty with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Time is running out because there are only two weeks left until December 10 to participate and put a smile on the face of underprivileged children on Christmas morning.

If you want to help out, why not bring a gift or donate in collection boxes at a special Christmas Craft Fair and Market held for the Standard’s Toy Appeal on Sundays from 9am to 8pm. at the Tesco Extra supermarket in Cuckoo Pont.

Organized by big-hearted Anne Croucher – the store’s community champion – it will feature over 45 stands under the store’s glass roof and part of the parking lot. The £ 5 trader fee will be used to call up the toy.

Anne said: “I am delighted with the response so far with so many merchants. It will be great Christmas fun regardless of the weather.

“I hope people will come and support the event and donate toys and chocolate treats for the toy appeal at our collection point or put a donation in the collection buckets.

“It is so important that we help families in difficulty so that every child receives a Christmas present on December 25th. “

In addition to Tesco at Cuckoo Bridge, toys and gifts can be dropped off at collection points – which have our appeal sign – in Morrisons, Dumfries; Tesco Peel Center, Dumfries and the Dumfries Nationwide branch (open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Wednesday 10 a.m. – and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon).

Marks and Spencer in Dumfries has a Christmas tree collection point near the cafe which has our special red labels on it.

Please choose one from the branches, buy a suitable gift for the age of the child named on it and leave it in the baskets.

If you can help kids experience some of the magic of Christmas, do it today.

In compliance with health and safety measures, it is essential this year to ensure:

• No used toys

• Toys must be new, unused and sealed, packaged or labeled.

• Please do not wrap the toys in Christmas paper.

Under the current circumstances supporters may want to donate cash this year rather than having to buy a toy and you can do so directly to our bank account at Bank of Scotland in Dumfries either in branch or online using
BINS.

You just need to know that the Standard Toy Appeal account number is 10856666 and the sort code is 80-22-60.
Our own offices at Park Lane are closed, so please do not send money or donations there.

• Any organizations or businesses wishing to donate cash or check, toy gifts or selection boxes should email: sharon.liptrott@reachplc.com or call 07917516142 to arrange collection and photography .
