Barmm and partner agencies join World Humanitarian Day

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) with its various humanitarian partners planted 750 saplings last week in Datu Odin Sinsual, Maguindanao.

Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, Minister of Interior and Local Government, said the activity was part of the celebration of World Humanitarian Day on August 19.

The Sinarimbo office, the Mindanao Humanitarian Team (MHT) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-Ocha) carried out the activity in Labungan village, Datu Odin Sinsuat town.

Sinarimbo stressed in his speech the importance of unity in the ongoing battle against the climate crisis.

“The call for a more aggressive and impactful agenda to stop the deterioration and the resulting crisis we face, due to many of our failures to tackle climate change, is really important at this point.” , Sinarimbo said.

“Getting away from the world is not an option … It is therefore important that we act together to ensure that this world will last beyond our generation and generations to come,” he added.

UN-Ocha chief in Mindanao Melindi Malang acknowledged the continued support they receive from BARMM.

“We are really happy to have a very strong partnership with the government of Bangsamoro, in makikita nga po yan with the convergence project with the World Food Program (WFP). At present, UN agencies can enter into a partnership and agreement with the BARMM government, ”said Malang.

The theme for this year’s WDD is anchored on “The Human Race”, which aims to launch global action against climate change while standing in solidarity with vulnerable populations around the world.

This year, WHD is highlighting the immediate human cost of the climate crisis by pressuring world leaders to take meaningful climate action for the world’s most vulnerable people. (SunStar Zamboanga)
